CAN YOU BRING YOUR PET TO COLLEGE?
The answer is… it depends! Universities have always allowed service animals, though undeniably some schools accommodate this better than others. Now in 2024 post-covid world more schools are acknowledging the value of Emotional Support Animals. Campuses vary on ESA policy. Some schools allow ESAs in dorms and restricted public spaces. Other schools allow ESAs in the classroom and just about anywhere on campus. Some ESAs may be restricted by state law. For example our family has Degus, an exotic rodent legal here in AZ, but in California and Georgia these animals are considered a potential invasive species. Therefore, colleges in those states would not knowingly allow ESAs that are illegal pets in those states. Beyond on campus accommodations, dorm style apartments surrounding Arizona public colleges also usually ESAs. Remember to make arrangements in advance and notify whichever housing you select to match you with room mates comfortable with pets.
